The Tranquilo Traveler
The Tranquilo Traveler is a celebration of voluntourism, slow travel, and other interesting ways to see the world. Travel writer and award- winning Moon Handbooks author Joshua Berman created The Tranquilo Travel as a resource for world trippers and international volunteers, a window to the author’s travels in Nicaragua, Belize, and beyond, and an update of his books and articles.
Two Articles in Transitions Abroad Magazine!

A full first-person feature about the volunteering aspect of our recent trip and a second one containing excerpts from my latest book, Moon Living Abroad in Nicaragua, both appear in Transitions Abroad magazine’s November/December Responsible Travel Issue 2006-2007 — available on news stands now! The first piece, “A Volunteering Honeymoon: Traveling with American Jewish World Service Teaches Tolerance,” begins on page 24, describes a number of remarkable experiences with AJWS, and features a photo of “the author’s wife” in Birpara, India.
“Nicaragua’s Evolution” by Randy Wood and Joshua Berman starts on page 38, and begins with the first line of our book: “Forget everything you thought you knew about Nicaragua.” If you like what you see, buy the book and book a trip.
As for this issue of TA, it’s an honor to be included alongside writers like Jeff Greenwald, Rick Steves, and Tim Leffel (see the “Fellow Travelers” links to your right), among others. Neighboring articles such as “Rural Tourism in Morocco,” “Ethical Travel,” “Fair Trade Shopping in Cape Town,” and “A Day in the Life of a Monk” make me feel right at home in these pages.
Enjoy.

Anyone who is unhappy about the sorry state of travel magazines on the newstand (and the infatuation with luxury) needs to subscribe to Transitions Abroad. No whining allowed otherwise.
